I've been telling my husband to update his blog... he hasn't written anything since January. I knew it, he was just good at the start. This means that I have to remind him again from time to time that he should spend sometime here (
talk about a nagging wife :p) . So I am here now writing something...
February was not so busy month for us but it was tough. I got sick with chicken pox which requires us to buy the 'expensive' but 'very effective' medicine. It was expensive because the branded medicine which we bought from Pfizer costs P166.++ each. I have to take this tablet 4x everyday. This means that I should buy medicines worth P664.++ When G asked if they have generic medicine for
ancyclovir, they said that it was out of stock. Poor hubby, he has to shell out P700 for the a day supply of medicine. The next day, he found cheaper generic medicines at a drugstore in Alabang. From P166.++, this generic medicine was only P60.++. He was able to save P100 on every medicine that he bought.
So what am I saying here? I simply wanted people to know that generic medicines have the same components as the branded medicines. The only difference is that you are paying for the
NAME of the branded medicine. Both have the same effect since generic medicines are patterned or 'copied' from the branded. The branded are just more expensive because the company was responsible in doing the research and studies for the drug. Consumers are paying for the fees that was incurred during the development of the drug. Generic drugs, on the other hand, was formulated by breaking down the components of the branded medicine.
In a country like Philippines, it should be implemented that doctors should recommend generic drugs. The bill on the use of Generic drugs should be approved because it will help a lot of people, especially those who can not afford to buy the branded medicines.
