is he worth the fame
I've been seeing Reynaldo 'Simon' Lapuz on the television the past days. For those who still don't know him, he is one of the contestants in American Idol 7. He is like the others who did their best in showing in 'talents'. He sang a song entitled 'We are Brothers, Brothers Forever'. The comment he got from Simon was, 'you are entertaining, but NO'. Despite this, he thanked Simon for giving him a chance to perform his talent...
Now, is he a pride to the Filipinos? Or did he degrade the Filipino race? I just saw the full video of his performance through youtube. I think he looked funny. He had this cowboy hat and a silver cape. He looked ridiculous... while he was performing, I was sad because I think he was just another Filipino who is trying to make the Filipinos looked 'tanga' to the world. As he was asked to repeat his song, I felt angry at him because they were already making him look like a fool but he still continued with his singing. BUT when Simon said NO to him and still he thanked him for giving him the chance to show his singing, I was touched. He showed a POSITIVE FILIPINO TRAIT. He was so humble and thankful. He showed the world that Filipinos know how to show their gratitude whenever they are given the chance. He was able to show that Filipinos are good people, accepting defeat with heads still up.
I salute Reynaldo Lapuz. He is my brother and I am proud that he is a Filipino. He might not speak English fluently, he may be too old to be an American Idol and he may not have the looks... who cares, he is now famous and a lot of people are already singing his song. He might be more famous than the real winner of American Idol 7.
